Jackpot King explained: how the network works

Jackpot King is Blueprint Gaming's progressive jackpot system, added to versions of slots such as Fishin' Frenzy, Eye of Horus and 7's Deluxe. Any spin at any stake can trigger its bonus: in Blueprint's help file for 7's Deluxe, three bonus symbols on reels 1 to 3 start a crown ladder, and 15 or more crowns, or a Wheel King reveal, open the Wheel King, the one part of the game where the jackpots can be won. The Royal and Regal pots must drop by a set "Must Be Won By" value, but Blueprint's own pages print no amounts; they belong in the game rules at your casino.

"NOTE - The Jackpot King Deluxe Jackpots can only be won during the Wheel King part of the bonus." That line, from the help file Blueprint Gaming publishes for 7's Deluxe Jackpot King, explains more about the system than the marketing does. The game pages promise that "cash prize or Progressive Jackpots can be won on any spin", which is true in the sense that any spin can start the journey. The jackpot itself sits at the end of a bonus with two stages.

Five-step diagram of the Jackpot King Deluxe bonus: any spin at any stake; three bonus symbols on reels 1 to 3, or five on five-reel games; a crown ladder where a picked icon reveals another spin, a collect or a Wheel King; 15 or more crowns or a Wheel King reveal open the wheel; the wheel stops on a multiplier or a jackpot pot.

On a three-reel game such as 7's Deluxe, the bonus starts when three Jackpot King Deluxe symbols land on reels 1 to 3; on five-reel games the help files for Ted and Fishin' Frenzy ask for five on reels 1 to 5. You then spin to collect crowns that move you up a win ladder. After each spin you pick an icon, and the icon reveals what happens next: another spin, a collect that ends the feature with a bonus win paid as a multiple of your total bet, or a Wheel King reveal that takes you directly to the wheel. With 15 or more crowns you reach the Wheel King, a wheel the help file describes as "a Tombola style Wheel consisting of Big Win Multiplier segments and Progressive pot segments". Only there can a jackpot land, and even there the wheel can stop on a multiplier instead.

How the pots fill up and when they must drop

  • Who pays in: "Jackpots are funded by contributions from the player's stake except for the initial seeds which are funded by the Operator."
  • After a win: the pot "is reset to the Reserve amount and begins to rise again".
  • Must-drop pots: "Royal and Regal pots are guaranteed to be won by the 'Must Be Won By' value". An operator page for UK players, Jackpotjoy's, names three pots: Royal, Regal and Jackpot King.
  • Your chance: "The chances of winning a jackpot increases based on the Jackpot value", so as a pot grows, so does the chance of it being won. That does not make any single spin likely to win, and it is not a reason to play: the bonus has to be triggered first, and the wheel can still stop on a multiplier.
  • Your stake: the system "is available on any stake on any game plugged into the Jackpot King Deluxe System", and "simultaneous jackpot wins cannot occur".

What the help file does not give is the numbers. Blueprint prints no seed, reserve or must-be-won-by amounts on the pages we read, and the figures published elsewhere disagree: an operator's blog, MrQ in March 2024, and a 2018 trade report give the Royal and Regal limits the other way round, so we do not repeat them. Nor does Blueprint say whether players at different casinos feed the same pot or each operator runs its own; the only hint is that the seeds are "funded by the Operator". The help files we read are versions Blueprint serves to one operator group, Paddy Power Betfair, so the screen in your own casino is the one that counts.

These are the pages we opened. There are many more Jackpot King titles, among them King Kong, Deal or No Deal and Flintstones versions, but Blueprint's game list loads by script and we did not check them one by one. Look closely at the RTP column. Low and High are Blueprint's names for two RTP versions of the same game, and the casino decides which one it runs. Blueprint gives the base game's return and then writes "+ JK %" without saying what that jackpot share is. On Eye of Horus the top base figure drops from 96.31% on the standard game to 95.46% on the Jackpot King version, which fits part of the return being moved into the pots that pay out only on the wheel; Blueprint does not give the split. If you compare slots by RTP, as on our online slots page, compare a Jackpot King version with its standard sister knowing that its figure is split in two.

What British rules add

What Blueprint leaves off its website should still be available to you before you play. The Gambling Commission's technical standard for progressive jackpots requires that "an explanation of the jackpot rules must be clearly available to the customer before they commit to gamble", and its implementation guidance says the rules "shall describe how it is funded, what the start-up seed and any ceiling values are". A game may show its return as one combined figure or "broken down into the base game and jackpot component", so a separate jackpot share is not guaranteed. The help screen of a Jackpot King game at a British casino is the place to look for the funding, seed and ceiling details, and it is worth opening before the first spin. The same standard says the chances of winning a jackpot "should increase in correlation with the amount contributed"; the help files we read say only that the system runs at any stake, so whether a bigger stake raises your chance is one more thing to read there. Either way, a bigger stake means bigger losses, and the jackpot stays unlikely at any stake.

Every Jackpot King spin also runs under the general British rules: a stake limit of ยฃ5, or ยฃ2 if you are 18 to 24, and at least 2.5 seconds between spins, as our page on why UK slots are different explains. If a casino offers free spins on a Jackpot King game, whether they can trigger the bonus and how a jackpot won on them is paid is a question for the offer's terms and the game's rules; our page on free spins with no deposit shows what to read in those terms. Blueprint itself sits in Newark, holds Gambling Commission account 6516 and has belonged outright to Germany's Merkur Group, formerly Gauselmann, since 2012.

Frequently asked questions

How do you trigger Jackpot King?
Any spin can start the bonus. In Blueprint's help file for 7's Deluxe Jackpot King it takes three bonus symbols on reels 1 to 3, and on five-reel games five symbols across the reels. You then collect crowns; 15 or more open the Wheel King, the only place the jackpots can be won.
Does a bigger stake increase my chance of the jackpot?
The help files we read do not say. They say the system is available on any stake and that the chance of a jackpot rises as the jackpot value grows. The Gambling Commission's standard says chances should increase with the amount contributed, so check the game's own rules at your casino.
What are the Royal and Regal jackpots?
Two of the Jackpot King pots. Blueprint's help file says they are guaranteed to be won by a Must Be Won By value; an operator page names the third pot, Jackpot King. Blueprint's site prints no amounts, and published figures disagree, so the game's help screen is the place to read them.
Who makes Jackpot King?
Blueprint Gaming, based in Newark and licensed by the Gambling Commission under account 6516. It has been wholly owned since 2012 by the German Merkur Group, formerly the Gauselmann Group.
